Maybe you wouldn’t call it a crisis.

You call it being tired. Short-tempered. Not in the mood. Just wanting some quiet. “I just need some rest.”

But there is a difference between being tired… and no longer recognizing yourself. There is a kind of man who works. Solves problems. Pays the bills. Takes care of everyone else. And precisely because he keeps functioning, nobody notices that he is fading.

Not even him.

From the preface

Read a few lines before you decide

Maybe this passage explains something you have felt for years — but never managed to put into words.

You didn’t fall apart.

And maybe that is exactly the problem.

You kept working. You kept handling things.

You kept getting up early, paying bills, honoring commitments, answering everyone, maintaining an image that looked functional enough to everyone else.

From the outside, no one would say that something inside you had started to fail.

Because it doesn’t look like failure.

It looks like routine.

It looks like maturity.

It looks like responsibility.

It looks like adult life doing what it has always done: asking for a little more, one more time, one more day.

But there is a kind of weariness that does not announce itself with a crash.

It doesn’t come kicking down doors.

It comes in and occupies the silence.

First, you lose a little energy.

Then, a little interest.

Then, a little patience.

Then, a little presence.

And by the time you notice, you aren’t exactly sad, or exactly crushed, or exactly in crisis in the dramatic sense people understand. You just keep going. Only heavier. Emptier. Farther away. More automatic.

As if life kept moving forward… and you were no longer fully inside it.

Someone asks how you are, and you say “I’m fine” before they have even finished the question. And the worst part isn’t the lie. The worst part is that you no longer know what you would say if you told the truth.

This book was born for that man.

The man who never truly allowed himself to stop.

The man who had to become useful too soon.

The man who learned to hold everything up before he learned to listen to himself.

The man who became so used to answering the world that he lost touch with his own voice.

Maybe that man is you.

If you recognized yourself in any of these lines, this book may be for you.

From the author of Letters to the Man I Was

A new prison. A quieter one.

After writing about the letters a man never dared to send to himself, Ivan Tellier now turns to a more discreet prison: the prison of the man who spent his life being strong until he disappeared inside his own role.

No magic formula here. No coach slogans. No fake applause.

Just a direct, mature and uncomfortable read about something many men live through, but almost never say.

The author

Who is writing this

I write about this because it happened to me first. I arrived late to several conversations that had been waiting for me for years, and one of them was no longer possible by the time I finally sat down to have it. What I have learned since then, clumsily and late, is what is in these books. I didn’t write them to teach. I wrote them so that other men wouldn’t learn the same things as late as I did.

Ivan Tellier is a pen name. It isn’t an agency or a team of copywriters: it is one man writing about something he knows. I write from Latin America, in the hours my job leaves me, a job that has nothing to do with books.

I write little, and always about the same thing: what men don’t say. If something you read here resonates with you and you want to write to me, I read it myself. There is no assistant. ivantellierbooks@gmail.com

What they wrote to me after reading it

I never thought twice. If the company called me in the middle of a shift to say ‘Javier, we need you in such-and-such country, urgently,’ I was on a plane to the other side of the world almost the next day. And do you know why I did it? First, out of fear of being discarded as an employee. Second, out of the panic I felt at the idea of my family being left without the provider that I am. Every family needs more than financial well-being. They need presence. I read the 100 pages and the 10 letters in a single day. It has helped me a lot, above all to know that I’m not the only one.

Javier Zúñiga

The part that hit me hardest was: Monday still exists. So often we want to escape our reality and create an alternate one where everything is perfect from scratch, but that is impossible: what we create are temporary fantasies that end up frustrating us even more. As your book says, it isn’t about escaping, but about restoring our present exactly as it is.

Wilman Ortiz

With your book you bring into the light things that are rarely talked about. The book has allowed me to analyze my own actions and thoughts, to decide where to start making changes, and to make a commitment to myself. It’s lifting your head after reading the book and seeing that your reality is still there, that Monday is waiting for you. And that awareness is the starting point to improve, to think differently and to act differently.
